Technical Specialities

Complex systems with software safety. Functional safety hazard analyses (FHA). MIL-STD-882 Complete systems and software/firmware. Fault Tree (FTA), design reviews, IEEE standards. Aerospace, missile, rocket, munition, submersible, surface, air, land, sea. Autonomous vehicles. I have over 40 years experience in aerospace, automotive, and commercial systems. Began at NASA with Apollo Program ended at Missile Defense Agency. Unique insight into complex systems interface and energy actions allows getting to the hidden hazards. I performed on the small team that assessed the Ground Based Missile Defense (GMD) end-to-end safety assessment to allow Initial Operations Capability (IOC) and continued working the GMD to add safety interlocks to become two fault tolerant and verified. Worked with contractors, government officials, and warfighters to build a common understanding of safety features. Am performing part time safety assessment telework for medium size safety company in robotic and autonomous devices and undersea vehicles. Am a member of SAE G48 System Safety standards committee and the IEEE P2675 - DevOps - Standard for Building Reliable and Secure Systems Including Application Build, Package and Deployment as well as the IEEE Internet of Things (IoT) Internet Technology Policy community.
