We are pleased to invite you to submit original contributions to the Special Session on Situation Awareness and Cyber-Physical-Social Systems for Homeland Security organized at IEEE SMC 2024 (Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, 7-10 October 2024) https://www.ieeesmc2024.org/

Submission deadline: April 08, 2024
Notification to authors: May 30, 2024

Aim: Homeland security refers to the national effort to ensure a country's security, resilience, and preparedness against both internal and external threats, including terrorism, natural disasters, and other emergencies that could affect the national, economic, and public health security. In the context of homeland security, Cyber-Physical-Social Systems (CPSS) plays a critical role by ensuring the smooth, efficient, and secure operation of critical infrastructure. Situation Awareness (SA) is fundamentally important in both homeland security and the management of CPSS because it enables decision-makers and operators to assess the current situation accurately, make informed decisions, and take appropriate and timely actions to maintain or restore security and functionality. In homeland security, SA is crucial for early threat detection, crisis management, and strategic planning to mitigate risks. For CPSS, SA ensures that systems operate within safe and optimal parameters.

Together, homeland security, CPS, and SA form a triad that focuses on protecting a nation's critical assets through advanced technology, strategic planning, and continuous monitoring. This session will explore the pivotal roles of CPSS and SA in enhancing the resilience of critical infrastructures, improving security information systems, and optimizing emergency response strategies.

We invite researchers, scholars, and practitioners from both the industrial and academic spheres to submit original works and engage in discussions on the latest trends in CPSS, SA, AI, and ML applications for homeland security. This special session seeks to foster a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in enhancing security measures through technological innovation and human-centric approaches.
