Terence Smith
Biography
I earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of New South Wales in 1974. My career began in acoustic research and noise control at the National Acoustic Laboratories. I moved to broadcasting in 1986 when I took a position at the Special Broadcasting Service. In 1995 I joined the United Nations, Broadcast and Conference Engineering Unit, in New York. In 1997 I became Chief of the BCEU. On returning to Australia in 2000, I worked in the subscription television industry, first with AUSTAR and later Foxtel. I now have my own my media technology consulting company, Mississippi Consulting Pty Ltd. I am a member of the IEEE and SMPTE. Throughout my career I have contributed to national and international standards development, and participated in broadcasting and telecommunications industry representative bodies. My professional interests lay in media technology, energy efficiency, and more recently IoT and 5G wireless broadband applications.
