Dr. Nirmal K Nair

Biography
Nirmal Nair has BE from M.S. University, Baroda, ME in High Voltage from IISC and PhD from Texas A&M. He has held industry, research & academic posts in India, USA and NZ. Currently, he is an Associate Dean in the Faculty of Engineering at University of Auckland His expertise is around protective relaying, electricity markets, voltage security, blackouts and resilience. Currently working on integration of distributed/renewable energy sources to electricity system with emphasis on protection (IEC 61850, SPS, WAPS), energy markets (block-chain), innovations (Micro-grid, Storage, EV & PV integration, cyber-resilience, digital twins, machine learning and AI), low-carbon transitions and energy policy. He is engaged with NZ Electricity Engineers Association and CIGRE and leadership positions with IEEE PES, R10, NZ Council and NZ North Section. He is General Organizing Chair of POWERCON2012, ISGT-ASIA2017, TENCON2021, EGRID2022, TALE2023, ISGT-ASIA2023 in Auckland.
