Biography
Brian is a Professor of Interactive Arts and Technology at Simon Fraser University, and an Affiliate Professor of Computer Science and member of the Institute for Computing, Intelligent and Cognitive Systems at  the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on the cognitive science of human interaction with visual information systems, with the goal of developing new theories and methodologies for development and evaluation of technology to support human understanding, decision-making, and coordination of operations. This work has applications in disaster preparedness and response, scientific research, air travel safety, and public health management. Brian serves on the governing Council of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the IEEE VGTC Executive Committee. He was a General Chair for VIS 2019, VAST 2010 and Papers Chair for VAST 2017 and 2020.
