How long will it be until we have a green passenger airplane?

We have electric cars and electric trucks, which are exciting because they are greener, but I see little talk about green airplanes. Producing a green airplane seems like a daunting problem, but the tech industry has long conquered daunting problems.   What will be the enabling technology?
