Are we more lonely than ten years ago because of the greater presence of technology in our lives?

I recently saw a post that contained the prophecy that machines would replace humans in the workforce - and that this would make humans more lonely. But we have already had a significant history of machines replacing humans in the workforce. Are we more lonely than we were ten years ago because of the greater presence of technology in our daily lives?
