Do we need a major overhaul of copyright laws to accommodate generative AI apps such as ChatGPT?

On the one hand, I believe we all recognize the great potential of generative AI to have a large positive impact on humanity.  On the other hand, OpenAI has said that it is 'impossible to train AI without using copyrighted works for free." 
We seem to have a significant conflict here - under our copyright laws as they now exist. Do you think we need a major overhaul of our copyright laws to accommodate generative AI apps such as ChatGPT.
