If I used generative AI to help write an article, have I violated copyright law?

Some recent articles have noted conflicts between the use of generative AI and the copyright laws. We all know that if we copy enough of a single source, we are likely infringing on its copyright. If we researched a thousand article articles and just used very small bits of each, we may not have infringed on their copyrights.  But there are many subtleties to copyright laws - and generative AI has the potential to trip over many of them. If I used generative AI to help write an article, have I violated copyright laws? What guidance can you give me?
