Has automation lived up to its promise on jobs?

Two of the selling points of automation are that it would eliminate undesirable jobs and it would create desirable jobs.  But the "great resignation" in the US points out that many US jobs were very undesirable. Has automation lived up to its promise on jobs?
  • Yes, automation has created many desirable jobs and eliminated many undesirable jobs.
  • No, many of the jobs that remain are still quite undesirable - and that is likely to continue indefinitely.
  • Yes, the job situation would have been much worse without automation.
  • No, automation has focused on improving business cost savings - and not on eliminating low-paid undesirable jobs.
