Imagination in Action AI Summit - some key thoughts

I just attended this summit on Thursday on 4/18.  This is what in-person meet ups are all about - I met so many new / smart / interesting people that are changing the world of AI.

4.18 – Imagination in Action AI Summit @MIT

Imagination in Action Summit: Forging the Future of Business with AI had 1700+ attendees, 180 speakers and 80 AI startups.

5 Things Lex Fridman shared he is Excited About This Year in AI

  1. "Personalized LLMs - where interaction between LLM and the individual becomes increasingly personalized. There are many ways to do this but one way involves memory about past interactions"
  2. "Large-scale speech-to-speech translation with a bit of human in the loop, so we can break down the barriers that language creates. This is a partly AI challenge and a partly software challenge to build easy-to-use tools for creators for AI"
  3. "Web search: web search has defined so much of our interaction with the internet in the last 30 years and it will be transformed over the next few years. Web search with LLM is a first-class citizen. Every major search engine (Google, Bing, etc.) will rapidly integrate AI from the previous version of web search, the so-called '10 blue lines' "
  4. "Humanoid robots in the factory and especially in the home. A lot companies are working on this Tesla, Figure, Boston Dynamics, and others. Check out the new version of Atlas that Boston Dynamics is working on – you will be blown away"
  5. "Open-source of LLMs. At this stage of LLM development, open source is good for everyone"

6 Thoughts Vinod Khosla shared with us:

  • “Robots are not robots anymore. They are learning systems”
  • “No one will have to work for 40 years on a car manufacturing plant in the near future”
  • “We may be moving to a ‘use once’ software.   Software we become a utility that just operates in the background”
  • “Computers/AI will learn humans, rather than humans learning computers/AI”
  • "Everyone will need to learn to learn -- to always be adaptive"
  • "In 5 years, most of the internet usage will be done by AI agents, not human"
